Union @ 378 / Conestoga

From "Complete Streets"

Go to the project

As a pedestrian, it is difficult to cross the Union / 378 / Conestoga intersection. Difficult on both north and south side of the street (north side currently closed).

There are no crosswalks or traffic lights. The presence of slip ramps on either side means that cars do not need to slow before turning, and often don't use turn signals. As a pedestrian, I therefore have to assume that every car is turning before entering the roadway.

This intersection is at the trailhead to Monocacy Way, a popular walking trail, and also an approach to the Colonial Industrial area and festival grounds.

Yes! This intersection is terrible. I live just north of Union but when walking to West Bethlehem, especially with kids, I'll go all the way down to Broad just to avoid crossing through this area. Visibility is poor with the hill and cars speed onto Conestoga and the 378 ramp.

Absolutely want to second everything in this comment. This is a trailhead. There needs to be a stoplight with dedicated walk time at this intersection. It is insanely dangerous and I would never let my kids bike here to get on the trail, sadly.
