Buildings Implementation Committee
Energy used to heat, cool, light, and power Bethlehem’s buildings is responsible for more than 70% of the city’s community-wide total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and mitigating it represents a prime opportunity to attain the city’s overarching GHG reduction goals. The city’s building stock is varied and diverse and includes single- and multi-family residential, small and large commercial, and older and newer constructed buildings, which will require a suite of strategies to ensure widespread penetration and adoption of actions needed to reach the city’s climate goals.
The Buildings Implementation Committee meets with the ideas and goals from this section in mind.

Year 1 & 2 Goals Include:
- Create benchmarking requirement for government buildings.
- Develop benchmarking requirements for commercial and multi-family properties.
- Support Residential Property Assessed Clean Energy (R-PACE) financing.
- Initiate or expand upon residential energy efficiency programs, especially those serving low-income communities.
- Partner with utilities to increase awareness of opportunities for energy audits, incentives for energy efficiency improvements, and other energy-saving measures.
