How does this relate to the project along Broad Street?

As a major downtown commercial street that serves people taking all forms of transportation, Broad Street is a great example of a Complete Streets project that will incorporate separated bike lanes, curb extensions, bus stops, and medians. The Complete Streets Plan and the Broad Street project are designed to work hand in hand, ensuring that the improvements along Broad Street align with the citywide vision and design principles being developed through the plan.

Open House Meeting #1

The City of Bethlehem is developing a Complete Streets Plan to help make our streets safer for everyone, whether you are a pedestrian, bicyclists, transit rider, or motorist.

The project team hosted an Open House Meeting on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025, which covered key transportation issues and opportunities across the city and provided an update on the planned improvements along Broad Street.

James Reiser4 months ago Pressing the button at street crossing should actually do something in a reasonable amount of time. I frequently walk along Broad Street between Center and Main and along Main. Pressing the button or not to call for a crossing doesn't appear to affect the timing for when the walk signal appears. So, it appears that vehicular traffic always seems to have precedence over pedestrians trying to safely cross a street.

Megan Angelo5 months ago The intersection of Elm St. and Jennings St. has almost zero visibility on the west side of the intersection these days due to our trees, which we love but which are large and leaning in their mature age. Even experienced drivers need to edge out dangerously to see. I'm really worried about the safety of the many kids who walk home from Liberty / Lincoln / NEMS. It would be great if that intersection could become a four-way stop—I know Jennings is a thoroughfare, but people absolutely fly, and I'm sure it's as hard for the drivers on Jennings to see cars and kids about to cross at Elm as it is for us to see them.

Also this area has a lot of suspicious activity. drive by in the parking lot by the Bayou . Because of no street lights there , there have been numerous mischief! My husband and other neighbors have had the cars broken into and damaged, also I feel we need more light on that street. they come from WaWa

DALIA Ruiz5 months ago Between the sun glare on Fairview, the excess zooming coming down Center St, Liberty and Moravian distracted driving and wrong way driving from E Elizabeth has caused more than 5 accidents a year. All reported with police department. Our neighbor has had his fence destroyed 2x in one year. Fortunately there has been no deaths but with the increased population of Bethlehem & distraction of drivers a sad occurrence may occur if no light or 4 way solar light notification is not installed

Lisa Lubin6 months ago Join other cities in making Bethlehem a real bike-friendly city. Make a plan to add "X" miles of bike lanes each year. Add protected and or buffered bike lanes whenever possible...especially when re-doing roads (Broad, Linden, Easton, New, etc). Make routes so leisure and cycling commuters can safely get downtown and then back out. Then add more bicycling route signs and add more bike racks.Address biking over bridges. All this would remove more 'barriers to entry' to attracting more people to get out of their cars and bike.

Jaime Bloss6 months ago The section on Illicks Mill between Center and Memorial Pool is very dangerous for cyclists. The shoulder heading toward the pool is extremely hazardous and you need to ride in the street in order to get through this section. The other side of the road has almost no shoulder so again, cyclists need to ride in the road. This is especially detrimental as this road takes residents and visitors to some of our best recreational spaces in the city.

Jill McGregor6 months ago Please consider introducing a 4-way stop at the intersection of N. New and Fairview streets. This is a highly utilized pedestrian crosswalk especially by students of William Penn, Northeast and liberty and well-known to the city and a problem spot for failure to yield infractions. Further, introducing the stop on New street may reduce the speeding occurring on N. New Street beginning at the intersection with Elizabeth.

Brianne Beebe6 months ago The pedestrian crossing on Eaton Ave/Highland Ave is extremely dangerous. I believe it’s important to add button-activated lights on the existing signs, as well as paint the worn-off pavement markings. This is a major connection between two neighborhoods with lots of children. Cars coming west on Eaton Ave are typically traveling WAY too fast, over the 378 bridge and do not have enough time to visibly register pedestrians. Pedestrians themselves feel in danger every time they cross, because it is impossible to see what cars are approaching from over 378. There are also often cars entering from both sides of Eaton, from Highland Avenue. On the occasion that the city puts up a pedestrian “standalone sign” in the center of the crosswalk, it usually only lasts several days before I notice it smashed in the road. Isn’t this a sign of what could happen to pedestrians? This corridor is only going to become more busy, as East Allentown becomes more developed and our population in general increases. These two Rosemont neighborhoods have seen a lot more young families move in, as the turnover from elderly residents happens. Please take this request seriously. In my opinion, a lighted crosswalk similar to the one at Moravian (W Elizabeth Ave) would make a huge difference in getting cars to stop for safe pedestrian crossing. It’s much easier for oncoming traffic to notice (and stop for) lights blinking on the yellow signs, than a pedestrian nervously standing at the corner. Painting the pavement where it is worn off (see photo) would also be helpful, but not in and of itself solve the issue. Thank you for your time!
