Child Care Support

City Supports Service Delivery through funding sources:

  • The City of Bethlehem allocated $25,000 from the Community Recovery Fund towards Child Care Support implementation.
  • YWCA Bethlehem - TechGYRLS STEM Education Program: During the past few years, the City has supported YWCA Bethlehem’s TechGYRLS Afterschool STEM Program with CDBG funding. In 2003, YWCA Bethlehem launched TechGYRLS to address the persistent gender and race/ethnicity gaps in science and technology professions. The TechGYRLS Afterschool STEM Program delivers high-quality, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math enrichment to girls ages 9 – 13 in the Bethlehem Area School District. With an all-female mentoring environment, TechGYRLS provides positive female role models, encourages girls to consider STEM careers, and helps them develop science and technology skills. TechGYRLS introduces the participants to computer coding, robotics, scientific experimentation, and engineering challenges.

  • Greater Valley YMCA, Bethlehem Branch - Childcare Wing Renovations: During several recent program years, the City has funded YMCA with CDBG to support substantial renovations of their Childcare Wing. The Greater Valley YMCA’s Bethlehem facility hosts a wide range of programs and services for all ages, including access to fitness equipment, group exercise classes, a pool for aquatics and life-saving, and others. The facility includes a large gymnasium that hosts basketball, indoor gross motor play for children, community events, and other programming.

  • Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem - Gym Repairs. In 2023, the City granted CDBG funding to the Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem to support needed repairs in the gym area. The Boys and girls Club of Bethlehem is located close to Marvine-Pembroke housing. 60% of the children utilizing their programs are at or below the poverty line, 50% are from single parent homes, 88% are youth of color. The organization provides homework assistance, youth mentoring, recreation, physical education, social development, and meal assistance for youth. Their building is 52 years old and in need of substantial rehabilitation. CDBG funding will support work to the auxiliary gym, a multi-functional space serving as a cafeteria for daily meal programs (feeding over 50 children daily); a children’s gymnasium; and ancillary classrooms used for artistic and other youth programming.
