Transportation and Mobility Implementation Committee

Transportation activities in Bethlehem account for about 20% of the city’s total community-wide GHG emissions. This is primarily the result of over 450 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT) over a single year. The purpose of this section’s strategies is to promote the use of low emission or zero-emission vehicles by residents, businesses, and government, to increase public transportation use, improve walkability, increase bicycling, and generally provide safe and alternative transportation modes to fossil fuel vehicles.

The Transportation and Mobility Implementation Committee meets with the ideas and goals from this section in mind.

Year 1 & 2 Achievements:

Partnership with the Bethlehem Parking Authority for the inclusion of EV charging stations, interior bike parking infrastructure and transit information built into the design of the newly opened Polk Street garage.
Award of Pennsylvania Multimodal Funding to allow for the design and construction of pedestrian safety measures and additional medians to create traffic calming measures along the East Broad Street corridor. Improvements will occur from Center to Elm Streets
Monthly meetings are now occurring with LANTA and the City staff to ensure coordination between City projects and LANTA initiatives such as the Enhanced Bus Service routes.
