Crossing Signs

Pressing the button at street crossing should actually do something in a reasonable amount of time. I frequently walk along Broad Street between Center and Main and along Main. Pressing the button or not to call for a crossing doesn't appear to affect the timing for when the walk signal appears. So, it appears that vehicular traffic always seems to have precedence over pedestrians trying to safely cross a street.

Good morning James, As part of the Broad street project we will be considering what we call "leading pedestrian interval" at each intersection. This will allow (if activated) the pedestrian time to enter the intersection and establish their presence before vehicles get the green light. This means that once activated, the light will follow the same sequence, however you as the pedestrian will be prioritized before the traffic parallel to you gets the green light. This will reduce the time you are waiting to cross. Feedback like this is very valuable. We appreciate your comment and look forward to providing you some relief in the future.
